Border Wars is a National Geographic Channel series that explores the problem of illegal immigration and drug smuggling over the Mexican/US border. The series premiere Border Wars: Last Defense is on January 10, 2010 and 8:00 PM ET. Thereafter Border Wars will air on Monday nights at 9:00 PM ET.
Illegal Drug Trafficking
Illegal immigration and drug smuggling over the Mexican border are issues that have social and economic impact on the United States. According to the Department of Justice Center, Mexican and Colombian Drug Trafficking Organizations amass about $18 to $39 billion in wholesale drug profits every year. It is believed that this drug money is smuggled in bulk via the Mexican border.
Illegal Immigrants and Drug Smugglers
According to the National Geographic website, thousands of men, women and children attempt to cross the border and enter the United States illegally every day. Some of the people who cross the border illegally look for work and a new life. Others are attempting to smuggle in illegal drugs and contraband for profit.
Desperate to enter the United States, the people who attempt to cross the border illegally are often willing to take desperate measure to get into the United States and are therefore dangerous. The people crossing the border risk their lives in the treacherous terrain of the Sonoran Desert in Arizona.
Border Wars
In Border Wars the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and officers scour the landscape at one of the country's busiest border crossings.
National Geographic Channel gives viewers an insider look at the chases, rescues and busts. NGC cameras follow the SBP agents and officers, as they fight the threat to the borders. From the inhospitable desert wilderness to the high tech stealth panes, the agents use every means available to track catch and deport illegal immigrants.
Border Wars: Last Defense
In Border Wars:: Last Defense, the undercover agents shut down a house in Nogales, believed to be a residents for illegal immigrants. Agents inspect cars at the border and find a large cache of drugs in a gas tank. When border guards stop a truck they find a groups of illegal immigrants. When they spot a pair of twin girls a man claims they are his daughters, but the agents find out he is lying. While taking care of the immigrants in the ruck, agents must make haste to catch the coyotes before they get away.
The border agents put their lives on the line to catch the illegal immigrants and drug smugglers , who are desperate to cross the border. The stakes are high on both sides. National Geographic Channel takes viewers to the Mexican border for an insiders look at the war on illegal border crossings.
